St James has three very distinct worship services offering a different approach to worship: all are centered on the hearing and proclaiming of the Word and the Holy Eucharist (Communion) and include prayers and a sermon. Music is available at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services of worship.
8:00 a.m. - The Early Service
This service of worship takes place in what we call “Christ Church Chapel.” The entrance is on Albert Street. Those who enjoy the early morning or wish to get their day started with worship the first thing attend this service. Visitors may find the service bulletins on a small shelf attached to the wall just as they enter the chapel door. Because of the small and intimate worship space, seating is not an issue. Visitors will find good seating near the altar or toward the back of the chapel. The service bulletin will lead the visitor through the liturgy, referencing page numbers from the Book of Common Prayer and from The Hymnal, 1982.
The congregation sits in silence to enjoy a musical prelude until the clergy person enters the chapel to begin the service. All baptized persons are welcome to join us for communion. Hospitality follows the service in the parish hall adjacent to the chapel on Albert Street.
10:30 a.m. - The Principal Family Service
The principal family service of worship takes place at St. James at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the church with full choral and organ support and lasts about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. We hope you will have a spiritually fulfilling and meaningful worship experience.
5:00 p.m. - The Sunday Afternoon Service
This service of worship offers a very low key approach in that no hymns or service music are involved. Like the 8:00 a.m. service, this one takes place in Christ Church Chapel on the Albert Street side of the church. Just as the early service provides a great beginning to the day, so also does the late service provide a fitting conclusion to a busy day. Come and see.
