The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is one of the busiest groups at St. James. They conduct events throughout the year to benefit both St. James and the community of Central Louisiana. From "kitchen showers", to luncheons, to receptions, to their infamous Canterbury birthday parties, these ladies add style to doing ministry.

Tips for Hosting
The party is held the third Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. and is over about 3:00 or 3:30 p.m.
- Call Canterbury House office (445-7715) to get the list of birthday people for the party that month.
- Purchase and wrap gifts for each birthday person. Usually spend $4 - $5 per person.
- Music: Ray Bloch (phone # in church directory) has been available to play the piano for us.
- The supply budget is $50.00. ECW will reimburse you by check – save your receipts and send to St. James Episcopal Church, Attn: ECW Treasurer.
- The host/hostess should arrive for set-up around 1:30 p.m. as the residents begin to arrive by 2:00 p.m.
- Begin the party with a prayer led by our priest, if attending, or the host/hostess, or one of the residents if they choose. Call church office (445-9845) to remind priest of the party date.
- Identify those celebrating birthdays, light the candles on one of the cakes, and sing “Happy Birthday.” Allow those that are able and wish to blow out the candles to do so.
- Distribute the gifts.
- Serve coffee, punch, cake and ice cream. (Some non-sugar items are good too: pretzels, crackers, fruit, and/or sandwiches.)
