Have you ever wondered why any form of the word evangelize is so off-putting? I think it’s because the process trumps the Story. It seems truly counter-intuitive that another would receive the Good News of Jesus as turn off, but it happens all the time. Now I’ve read the Story many times to this point in my life. Sometimes it convicts and challenges me, sometimes it consoles and encourages me, but always the Story of God’s revelation of God’s self in and through the person of Jesus of Nazareth fills me with wonder and amazement that I am so loved by God and it gives my life meaning beyond measure. It is absolutely possible to share Christ without intimidation, guilt, or shame, but first we must we must possess an unequivocal comfort with the Story as it touches our own lives. Then, and only then, can we presume to evangelize with a sensitive passion for those who listen.
