2010 New Orleans Mission Trip

Rita Klock, Bill Henderson, Susan Frey, Dave Curry, Father Michael Bertrand
Five people participated in the November 11 to November 14th mission trip to New Orleans. This year we helped a Lakeview resident, Mr. Michael Peterson, repair his home. Mr. Peterson had all the tools and supplies needed for the jobs- he just needed people with the necessary skills.
We spent our time painting, doing light carpentry jobs, and cutting dry wall to fit into small spaces. At the end of the two days, Mike showed us the list of tasks with the completed jobs crossed off and we were surprised to see how much we’d done!
In addition to working, we took the opportunity to help ourselves to some excellent seafood. We completed our trip on Sunday morning by attending the 7:30 Eucharist at Christ Church Cathedral.
What does this year’s trip mean for us and for you?
Father Mike said "this trip was a reminder of what we can accomplish when we try. Michael Peterson’s house needed (and still needs) a lot of work. It needed so much that at times our efforts seemed futile. But they weren’t. Service rendered in the name of Christ is always effectual- for the giver and for the recipient. So Michael Peterson benefitted and so did we. God’s grace was spread through our efforts. It’s an amazing thing that God works through us, even in humble circumstances."
